Why You Should Listen:

In addition to heading up Teach for America’s national initiative on building community alliances, the native St. Louisan Brittany Packnett is a leader in the Black Lives Matter Movement and serves on the Ferguson Commission as well as President Obama’s 21st Century Policing Task Force. As someone with a deep understanding of the underlying and complex set of forces driving the current state of unrest, Packnett will introduce critical insights into the collective discussion of Coates’ poignant personal struggle brought to life in his best selling book, “Between the World and Me,” this year’s First Year reading selection. Packnett will then welcome on stage Vernon Mitchell Jr. and Maria Ruiz to engage in a dialogue.
